PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The following committees prepare courses and seminars. Work includes: developing content,
finding speakers and researching new delivery methods.

Basics of Law Course
Conceptualize and deliver a course to educate non-lawyer IP practitioners in basic principles of
law.

Forums and Seminars
The mandate of this committee is to prepare the educational program of the Annual Meeting.
The committee develops educational programs of a broader nature than those focused on
developing skills at the early phases of entry into the intellectual property area. These
programs may provide information, for example, on emerging areas of practice, practice
management advice, training in specialized software, and training at the more advanced levels
of intellectual property practice. The Committee also prepares webinars for businesses,
general lawyers, and interested members and the public on patent, trademark, copyright and
industrial design matters.

McGill Courses Liaison
The members of this committee are the program directors and assistant directors named by IPIC.

The object of this committee is, in conjunction with McGill University staff, to organize the
courses presented every summer at McGill and consider the possibility of creating new
intellectual property courses to better prepare individuals for the practice of intellectual
property law as lawyers, patent agents or trademark agents.

Patent Agent Training Course
Review and update a course designed to enhance the patent agent trainees' level of knowledge
and skills and to assist trainees in passing the Patent Agent Examination.

Trademark Agent Training Course
Develop and deliver a curriculum designed to assist trademark agent trainees in passing the
Trademark Agent Examination and to enhance their level of knowledge and skills.
