Information contained in employee files is strictly confidential. The School will endeavor to balance the
School's need to collect certain personal information for legitimate business purpose with the employee's right
to privacy. The school will separately maintain an employee's medical file.
Effective October 2013, the Connecticut laws regulating personnel files will include some new ground rules:
• Timing of Employee Inspection: A current employee must be permitted to inspect and/or copy his or
her personnel file within seven (7) business days after the employer receives a written request.
• Rights of Former Employees: A former employee who makes a written request within one (1) year after
termination of employment may inspect and/or copy his or her personnel file at a mutually agreed
upon location within ten (10) business days after the request. If the parties cannot agree upon a
location, the employer must mail a copy of the personnel file to the former employee within such ten
(10) business day period.
• Disciplinary or Termination Documents: An employer must provide an employee with any
documentation of a disciplinary action imposed on that employee within one (1) business day after
imposing the discipline. An employer must provide an employee with any documented notice of the
employee’s termination immediately. (Note: no documentation of disciplinary action or termination is
required, however, documentation is advisable in many circumstances, especially for disciplinary
actions.)
• Notice of Employee Right to Rebuttal: Every documented disciplinary action, notice of termination or
performance evaluation must include a statement in clear and conspicuous language that if the
employee disagrees with any information in such document, the employee may submit a written
statement explaining his or her position, and this statement must be maintained as part of the
employee’s personnel file.
SNOW DAYS/DELAYED OPENINGS/EARLY DISMISSALS
Snow days, delayed openings, or early dismissal days will be communicated via SchoolMessenger, recorded on
Renbrook's Hot Line number, 860-231-2257, announced on WVIT, WFSB, and WTIC television, social media
outlets, and Renbrook.org. In the case of delayed openings, we ask that faculty be here 30 minutes before the
stated opening time. We have an unofficial before-school program on late opening days, but students will be
dismissed to the classrooms about 10 minutes earlier than the stated opening time because there will be too
many at that point for the before-school program to handle. Please do not share this information with parents
or encourage anyone to come in early; we have arranged this coverage to avoid liability issues.
In the event of an early dismissal, faculty remain on duty until specifically released by the division or
department head.
In both these cases, it is vital that we maintain adequate adult supervision, no matter what. Please help, with
the understanding that you will do your best to be here, depending on the condition of the roads between
your home and the school.
