SUBSTANCE ABUSE
The School prohibits the use, possession, manufacture, distribution, dispensing, or being under the influence
of illegal drugs and alcoholic beverages by its employees while on campus or as a part of work-related
activities and responsibilities. Failure to meet these expectations will be grounds for disciplinary measures up
to and including termination of employment.
If an administrator, faculty, or staff member believes that an employee's actions, appearance, or odor suggest
that the employee is under the influence of alcohol or non-prescribed illegal substances, that individual shall
inform the Head of School or his designee. In consultation with the school's attorney, the Head of School or
designee shall determine whether there is reasonable suspicion that the employee is under the influence of
drugs or alcohol in a manner that would interfere with the employee's work. If that is the case, the employee
will be escorted to the nearest Hartford Medical Group testing facility having the earliest available testing
opportunity, be required to submit to a urine and breath sample, and be placed on paid leave pending test
results. Release of test results to the school will meet applicable Federal and State regulations, and will be
under the supervision of the school's attorney. Employees who refuse to submit to the testing procedure will
be subject to immediate termination.
The school also recognizes that the consumption of alcoholic beverages by adults at on/off-campus school-
sponsored events is a normal activity throughout the year. We expect employees to act in a responsible
manner in these circumstances.
