แผนที่ประเทศไทย มีรูปร่างคล้าย “ขวานโบราณ”
ส่วนของแผ่นดินตอนบน เหนือ กลาง อีสาน และตะวันออก
เป็นหัวขวาน ส่วนของแผ่นดินตอนล่างยาวยื่นลงไปทางทิศใต้ ระหว่าง
สองมหาสมุทรดูคล้ายด้ามขวาน
เมื่อประเทศไทยผ่านวิกฤตยุคล่าอาณานิคมของประเทศตะวันตก

และเหลือเพียงประเทศเดียวที่รอดพ้นเป็นอิสระ แผ่นดินบางส่วนต้องยอม
สูญเสียไป เพื่อแลกกับอธิปไตยของชาติ ส่วนของแผ่นดินด้านทิศใต้
ทิศตะวันตก ดินแดนตะนาวศรี ตกเป็นของอังกฤษ ส่วนของแผ่นดิน
ด้านตะวันออก ไชยบุรี เสียมราฐ พระตะบอง และศรีโสภณ ตกเป็น
ของฝรั่งเศส รูปลักษณ์ของแผ่นดินไทยจึงคล้าย “ขวานบิ่น” มีด้ามกิ่วคอด
แคบสุดที่จังหวัดประจวบคีรีขันธ์
ยุคสมัยการล่าอาณานิคมของประเทศในยุโรป พุทธศตวรรษที่

๒๓ - ๒๕ ได้แผ่อิทธิพลเข้ามาทั่วทวีปเอเชีย ประเทศไทยเป็นประเทศหนึ่ง
ที่ถูกอิทธิพลจากการล่าอาณานิคมครอบคลุมมาถึง จนท�าให้ต้องเสียดินแดน
บางส่วนไป เพื่อแลกกับการรักษาเอกราชของชาติไว้จนถึงทุกวันนี้ ดินแดน

ที่ไทยต้องสูญเสียไปให้กับประเทศที่คุกคามตามสนธิสัญญาต่าง ๆ มีดังนี้

The shape of Thailand is similar to that
of an ancient axe.

During the Imperialism, Thailand was the only
country in the region free from colonialization by western countries. However; to remain free,
the country lost some parts of its territory in exchange for retaining the nation’s sovereignty.
The southern and western parts of the country - Land of Tanaosri were ceded to Britain, while
the eastern part - Chaiburi, Siem Reap, Battambang and Sri Sophon were given to France.
Accordingly, the shape of Thailand is now similar to that of
“a chipped axe”. Containing the north, the central, the northeast and the east, the upper part of
Thailand is the metal blade of the axe, and the lower part protruding
to the south between two oceans appears like a long handle where its narrowest
part is in Prachuab Khiri Khan Province.
