ภูมิภาคฝั่งทะเลอ่าวไทยตะวันออก แบ่งตามภูมิประเทศได้เป็น ๒ ส่วน คือ
ส่วนของที่ราบตอนบน บริเวณที่ราบลุ่มเจ้าพระยาถึงที่ราบโตนเลสาบจังหวัดสระแก้ว และ
ส่วนของที่ราบตอนล่างบริเวณชายฝั่งทะเลปากอ่าวเจ้าพระยาถึงเขตแดนประเทศกัมพูชา
เป็นแผ่นดินเชื่อมต่ออ่าวไทยที่ราบลุ่มเจ้าพระยากับที่ราบโตนเลสาบน�้าจืดขนาดใหญ่
ต่อเนื่องถึงที่ราบลุ่มตอนล่างปากแม่น�้าโขง ช่วยให้สะดวกในการคมนาคมกับบริเวณ
ที่ราบเจ้าพระยาทั้งโดยทางบกผ่านที่ราบตอนบน ซึ่งมีเส้นทางผ่านช่องเขาเข้าไปในที่ราบสูง
โคราชเช่นเส้นทางผ่านทับลานและตาพระยา และโดยทางทะเลผ่านจังหวัดระยอง จังหวัด
จันทบุรี และจังหวัดตราด และผ่านอ่าวไทยทางแม่น�้าแม่กลองออกสู่ทะเลอันดามัน
ที่เมืองทะวาย และโดยผ่านเจดีย์สามองค์สู่เมืองเมาะตะมะ

Connecting The Chao Phraya Plain to Tonle Sap

Based on geographical location, there were 2 types of plains
on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Thailand: the upper plain from
the Chao Phraya low land to the plain in Tonle Sap in Sa Kaeo Province

to the low alluvial plain of the lower Mekong River mouth.
It also eased the inland communications both on land and
 East coast of the Gulf of Thailand from via the Gulf of Thailand. On land, travelers passed the upper plain,
the Mekong Delta to the Dragon Mouth which ran through the tunnel to the Korat Plateau.
 From the Chao Phraya alluvial plain to Tonle Sap This included the route through Thap-lan and Ta Phraya. In terms
of access to the sea, travelers passed Rayong, Chanthaburi,
 Chanthaburi …King Taksin the Great’s Army Base Trat, and the Gulf of Thailand via Mae Klong, the Three Pagodas Passes
on the Eastern Coast and then went out to the Andaman Sea at the city of Tavoy.
