The western medical perspective is that
Parkinson's disease is caused by the deterioration
and eventual death of neurons in part of the brain
called the substantia nigra. These nerve cells
produce a chemical messenger known as dopamine
which tells other nerve cells what they are
supposed to do to cause movement.
