Overall goal and objectives of the study
In order to judge current situation of our country’s animal husbandry and investigatethe
possibility of optimal management of breeding activities, the following objectives were
accomplished:
1.To analyze current situation of animal husbandry based on NSO information in last 8
years
2.To investigate reproductive issues of livestock populations relying on statistical
information
3.To evaluate factors exerting adverse effects on livestock sector activities and
investigate the possibilities of minimizing them
According to our study, total number of livestock populations increased annually
by 9.8% (2.1 to 10.7) between 2005 and 2009, but the number dropped by 25.6% in
2010 as compared to previous year. Similarly increase of livestock population number
followed by sudden decrease was recorded in 2000 and 2005. Despite it can be seen to
be dependent from rangeland reserve shortages and adverse climatic factors, when
relatively greater snowfall and colder during winter in 2009-2010 and state central and
local authorities, civilians and herders had the similar to above explanations, it can be
assumed that there were the following factors:
-There is a justification that extremely higher increase of livestock populations resulted
in exerting adverse impacts on pasture carrying capacity, decreasing species
compositions of nutritionally valuable plants, as well as minimizing their adequacy to
each animals and becoming a reason of increasing livestock mortality rate.
-Although livestock population number is increasing, reaching percentage of goat
populations accounting to 43% in total livestock populations has a potential to exert
impact of rangeland deterioration and desertification.
-Despite intensive development of mining industry in last years has positive effects on
the country’s economy, it can be a reason of reducing nutritional reserve via lessening
the availability of livestock grazing and increasing animal morbidity and mortality due to
improper activities of mining industry.
-Feed reserve, which is able provide only a part, instead to be sufficient for a whole
livestock populations during winter and spring seasons under climatic severity, is
lacked.
