PTO accrues immediately from the first day of hire. No PTO will be granted prior to your 3 month
anniversary. If you leave MTR for any reason prior to 3 months you will not be paid for any accrued
PTO. With all other terminations you will be paid for any unused accrued PTO.
A maximum of 1.5 times your allowed yearly PTO accrual may be carried over from one calendar year
to the next.
Family and Medical Leave
MTR complies with the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), which requires employers to grant
unpaid leaves of absence to qualified workers for certain medical and family-related reasons. MTR
abides by any state regulated leave laws. The more generous of the two laws will apply to the employee
if the employee is eligible under both federal and state laws.
Please note there are many requirements, qualifications, and exceptions under these laws, and each
employee’s situation is different. Contact the Human Resources department to discuss options for leave.
Military Leave
MTR will grant a military leave of absence to employees who are absent from work because they are
serving in the U.S. uniformed services in accordance with the Uniformed Services Employment and
Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). You are required to give your supervisor advance notice of
upcoming military service, unless military necessity prevents advance notice or it is otherwise
impossible or unreasonable.
The military leave will be unpaid. However, you may use any available accrued paid time off, such
as vacation or sick leave, for the absence.
Continuation of health insurance benefits is available as required by USERRA based on the length of
the leave and subject to the terms, conditions and limitations of the applicable plans for which you
are otherwise eligible. Benefit accruals, such as vacation, sick leave, or holiday benefits, will be
suspended during a military leave and will resume when you return to active employment.
Employees who are on military leave for up to 30 days must return to work on the first regularly
scheduled work period after service ends (allowing for reasonable travel time). Depending on the
length of military service, in accordance with USERRA, you will be placed either in the position you
would have attained if you had remained continuously employed or in a comparable position. For the
purpose of determining benefits that are based on length of service, you will be treated as if you had
been continuously employed.
If you have questions about military leave, contact Human Resources for more information.
Bereavement Leave
In the event that you need to take time off because of the death of an immediate family member, MTR
provides up to 3 days of paid bereavement leave to regular full-time and regular part-time employees.
To request bereavement leave, see your supervisor.
