Employee Benefits
MTR provides a wide range of benefit programs to eligible employees.
Certain legally required programs (such as Social Security, workers'
compensation, state disability, and unemployment insurance) cover
all employees in the manner required by applicable State and Federal
Laws.
Your eligibility for each benefit program depends on a variety of
factors, including your employee classification. To better understand
exactly which benefit programs you are eligible for, talk to the Human
Resources department.
The following benefit programs are available to eligible employees, subject to terms and conditions of
each program; and are subject to change:
• Medical Insurance
• Dental Insurance
• Vision Care Insurance
• Group Life Insurance
• Long-Term Disability
• 401(k) Savings Plan
• Prescription Drugs
• COBRA
• Education Reimbursement Program
• Public Transportation Allowance
Benefits Continuation (COBRA)
The federal Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) gives employees and their
qualified beneficiaries the opportunity to continue health insurance coverage under our health plan
when a "qualifying event" occurs that would normally result in the loss of eligibility. "Qualifying events"
include resignation, termination of employment, or death of an employee; a reduction in an
employee's hours; employee's leave of absence; employee's divorce or legal separation; and when a
dependent child no longer meets the eligibility requirements as a dependent.
Under COBRA, the employee or beneficiary pays the full cost of coverage at MTR group rates plus an
administration fee. When you become eligible for MTR health insurance, we will also give you a written
notice describing the rights granted under COBRA. Because the COBRA notice contains important
information about your rights and your obligations, please read it carefully.
