CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION ELECTIVES
Engineering & Technology Pathway
Foundations of Engineering and Technology: This is the introductory course for all Engineering and Technology
Education pathways. This course provides students with opportunities to develop fundamental technological
literacy as they learn about the history, systems, and processes of invention and innovation. Emphasis is placed
on geometric construction, fundamentals of Computer-Aided Drafting, and multi-view drawings. Students will use
CAD in both 2-D and 3-D platforms to learn drafting techniques through the study of geometric construction.
Engineering Concepts*: This is the second course in the Engineering and Technology Pathway. Students will
learn to design technical solutions to engineering problems using a whole systems approach to engineering
design. Students will demonstrate the application of mathematical tools, teamwork, and communications skills in
solving various design challenges while maintaining a safe work environment. Only students who have passed
Foundations of Engineering and Technology may register for this course.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of Foundations of Engineering is required.
Engineering Applications*: This is the third course in the Engineering and Technology Pathway. Students will
study applications of mathematics and science to predict the success of an engineered solution and complete
hands-on activities as they develop drawings, prototypes, and complete working products.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of Engineering Concepts is required.
Foundations of Electronics*: This is the fourth year engineering class for students who have successfully
completed the Engineering Pathway (or will be concurrently enrolled in Engineering Applications when taking this
course). Electronics is a hands-on, project based, class that starts with basic electron theory and moves into
topics such as AC/DC circuits, soldering, and programming Arduino Microcontrollers in order to develop your
own unique electronics projects.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of Engineering Applications is required.
