GRADE 9-B
Students of grade 9B had shown a great interest to participate
in the activities which focused on Expo 2020’s theme ‘Connecting
Minds, Creating the Future.’ Students learnt about the difference
between jobs and skills through a balloon pop challenge, explored how
Expo 2020 Dubai can help them prepare for jobs that do not exist yet,
and travel in time to 2050 to imagine life in a smart city such as
District 2020, thinking about which job sectors will grow and which
skills will be in demand. They considered some jobs of the future, and
conducted role play interviews, then thought about 3D printing, a new
technology that was already transforming jobs.
The following objectives were focused.
1. Understand that skills can be applied to a wide variety of jobs –
including those that do not yet exist
2. Name career sectors most likely to expand, and the skills that are
likely to be most useful
3. Identify the skills needed for a range of jobs
4. See that Expo 2020 can help them understand careers of the future.
Drop Down Day provided students with the ability to be equipped in
valuable life skills which extend beyond the classroom context,
serving to promote overall health and well-being. By encouraging
students to be self-reflective and independent learners, we allowed
them to personally consider what they gained from their Drop Down
Days and reflect upon how they can implement this new knowledge
within their lives. Using self-reflective methods within the
classrooms is crucial to help harvest a culture of continual
development by encouraging students to ‘internalize, think, and ask
questions.’
Students enjoyed the activities and they participated with great
enthusiasm and spirit.
