Every quarter the Kitchen completes a stocktake and the Student Club is charged for all missing
crockery & cutlery above the 10% reasonable breakage allowance. This charge reduces the
money available to the Student Club to provide the Student Club parties, suppers, play, sporting
events, etc.
Vending machines
The soft drink/snack food vending machine is located adjacent to the JCR Kitchenette. If you
notice any problems with the vending machine, please speak to the Student Club Treasurer (2024
– Josephine Ung). Profits from the machine go to the Student Club; theft from the vending
machine is considered theft from the Student Club and will be reported to the police.
Condoms, dental dams and emergency tampons and pads are available in most bathrooms.
Please notify the Student Club Executive or Deputy Principal if these need restocking.
BBQ
The BBQ is available for student use. Please book through the College Office and clean up after
yourself. Press and hold the button for 6 seconds to turn it on, repeating every 20 minutes
(instructions are on the front of the BBQ). Use of the BBQ is free of charge.
Bicycles
Bikes and e-scooters must not be brought into the building, and should be kept locked at all times,
as thefts of bicycles are common in this area – even on College grounds. Bike racks are provided
around the College, including in the gated bike shelter at the rear of the car park. If you would
like to use this bikeshed, please ask for a key from the Office Manager. If you have an e-bike or
e-scooter, you must first seek permission from the Deputy Principal so that we can ensure chargers
have been safely tested and tagged. Please note that the bike shed does not have charging
facilities.
You are strongly advised to obtain a high-quality lock for your bike. Bicycles must not be left
leaning anywhere against the building, against the spiral staircase (as it blocks fire evacuation
access), or taken inside. Look after your bike and the bikes of others. If you would like to learn how
to service your bike and keep it in top condition, the UMSU Bike Co-op runs weekly workshops for
students on campus and any of our bicycle-enthusiast students may assist you in maintaining and
servicing your bike.
We also have an annual tagging system in place. Any bicycle or scooter without an in-date tag
left behind after a student departs from the College will be donated to a local charity or the
College bike-share scheme. The College accepts no responsibility for replacement of bikes left at
College.
