Holiday residence
During the Christmas holidays and Summer break, it may be possible to accommodate some
students attending Summer School or undertaking work within their academic area. This
accommodation will be charged at the Summer residence rate of $405 per week (kitchen closed)
and is available at the discretion of the Principal and Deputy Principal.
Luggage and storage
The College has very limited storage space and recommends students make alternative
arrangements if wanting to store belongings. Companies such as BoxIT! Storage are a cheap
option for students, and they provide and collect boxes.
Luggage lift
This is in the core of the spiral staircase. When you have finished with the lift, it is important that you
close both doors; otherwise, it cannot be called to other floors. Please note that this is a luggage
lift only, and not for human transportation for safety reasons.
Work Scheme
Work Scheme is the coordinated program whereby students are required to help with the
day-to-day upkeep of the College, with particular focus on the kitchen, student kitchenettes and
our shared spaces. It helps to keep residence fees down, assists in the transition to adult life, and
most importantly it upholds the idea that we are all responsible for caring for our communal
environment. All students at all stages of their time in JCH are required to contribute to the Work
Scheme as a condition of residence.
The Deputy Principal consults with the Student Club’s General Representative (Gen Rep – 2024
Katherine Wen) to allocate Work Scheme duties (two hours of work per week, during semester
time). The Gen Rep and the Deputy Principal draw up the Student Work Scheme Rosters and
allocate the students for each Work Area. The Deputy Principal and Chef Manager will ensure that
work is being completed to the required standards. Work Scheme should be treated in exactly the
same way as students treat their part time jobs.
