        6. All bedrooms are fitted with smoke detectors, and heat-activated sprinklers that we cannot

turn off once activated. Please advise the Facilities Manager if the battery goes flat (and starts
beeping), or contact the Duty Tutor after hours.

        7. Burning candles, incense, oils and sparklers in bedrooms is not permitted.

        8. Familiarise yourself with the locations of fire extinguishers.

        9. If you hear a siren, you need to evacuate the building. At such times, please follow the
instructions of any Fire Warden in the College. Leave the building immediately and calmly, and
ensure you get your name marked off the evacuation list at the College’s designated evacuation
site, which is on the tennis court at the Ormond end. When having your name checked off, please

also tell the Fire Warden of any College member you know for sure was not in the building at the
time. Please note that there will be a practice evacuation during the year.

        10. If you come across a fire or a smoke alarm going off, notify a fire warden or staff member

immediately, and/or activate a ‘break glass’ alarm to call the fire brigade. Only try to put the fire
out using a fire extinguisher if you have been trained in its use.

Any interference with hose reels or sprinklers will automatically call Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV), and
a charge of around $2,000 per response vehicle will be imposed by the FRV upon the student or

students involved if there is no genuine emergency.

        Personal safety responsibilities
You must participate fully in any fire awareness training conducted by the College. Carefully study
the emergency evacuation procedures displayed on the back of bedroom doors and the floor

map showing exits and fire services. Above all, you must respond to any fire alarm, even if you
        know it is a drill.

If you observe any problem with the College Safety Equipment, please report it to the Office
Manager or your Tutor on your floor immediately. This applies to equipment in your room or in

        public areas of the College.

        Illness and First Aid

First Aid kits are kept in the Deputy Principal’s office on the ground floor, the kitchen and by the
Student Club Executive. Please ask the Duty Tutor for assistance outside office hours.

If you are absent from College due to illness, please inform the College Office and your Floor
        Tutor.
