College Communication
Collect your mail, read your e-mails at least daily, check Facebook, read the Notice Boards and
use the JCH Information Sharepoint.
You can collect your mail from the pigeonholes near the main staircase. Larger parcels are left in
the College Office. You will receive an email from the Office Manager if you have a parcel to
collect.
It is important for students to check their e-mail account at least once a day. This is how College
staff will communicate urgent and important information to you. If we send an official e-mail to all
students, we will consider it to be read after 24 hours. It is your responsibility to read your e-mails
and to respond appropriately if necessary.
To get the most out of College, it is important to be well-informed of all the events occurring and
all updates from College staff. Staff updates are posted on the JCH 2024 Facebook group, and
shared verbally at Monday Formal Hall. Be sure to have notifications activated on Facebook so as
to read all important updates.
The Student Notice Boards outside the JCR and the corridor cork boards may be used to advertise
College events or other important information. The kitchen servery blackboards are used for daily
messages. Posters and notices should not be added to walls, windows or college areas (including
Dining Hall and Kitchenette walls) besides these designated areas.
Student Club Communication
In addition to the College Facebook Group (JCH 2024), the Student Club Executive also creates a
separate Facebook group as a means of keeping all students and staff residing in College
informed of any important events or notices. This second group is viewed as a more informal,
networking group for students and Tutors. Both Facebook groups are administered by the College
and/or Student Club Executive and are a vital source of information for those residing in College.
Students who do not have Facebook (or do not wish to use their personal account) can create a
new account for access purposes with the assistance of the Student Club Executive. Students
cannot ‘share’ access under one account. Alternative methods of communication may also be
established upon discussion with Senior Staff.
Social media
Whilst the student Facebook groups are often perceived as a less formal staff-student and
student-student communication platform, it is important that all communication is respectful and
upholds the values of the College. The College’s Code of Conduct applies equally for social
media as for ‘face-to-face’ contact. This includes any content or comments posted on College
and Student Club social media accounts including Instagram and TikTok.
