E ) Cell Differentiation
Refers to the specialization of the cells.
LECTURE NOTES: CELL METABOLISM
1. Metabolism
a. The way the body utilizes energy
b. Catabolism and anabolism
Anabolism is building, for example building proteins from
amino acids .Energy is needed for anabolic processes.
Catabolism is the breakdown of protein to its simpler
substances, amino acids, often with the release of energy
(ATP).
Energy, the ability to do work or to putt matter into motion.
Potential, is energy stored in cells and waiting to be released
Kinetic, is work resulting in motion
2. Carbohydrates
a. Differences among a monosaccharide, disaccharide, and
polysaccharide.
Monosaccharide, like glucose, consists of a single sugar.
Disaccharide is composed of two sugars
Polysaccharide is composed of many sugars.
b. Primary role of glucose
Glucose is used primarily as a fuel, releasing energy as it is
broken down.
Main source of energy
