bounced ahead of Teri and bent down to shove her hands in the snow. She stood up

with an armful and proceeded to throw the frozen water above their heads. Teri

laughed at first and hardly grimaced as the snow made contact with her face.

Thank goodness Renae had been wearing gloves otherwise her hands would be

               frozen along with everything else!

Almost 20 minutes into their walk and almost three quarters of the way to

the store, Teri's foot found a patch of ice under the snow. She found her mind

drawing a blank as she toppled backwards. Renae later said the following action

was cruel but Teri argued it was nothing more than basic instinct; as Teri was

falling, she grabbed onto Renae's arm and pulled her girlfriend down with her.

Renae yelped as she attempted to catch herself and ended up landing on top

of Teri (Renae called this karma for pulling her down in the first place). Teri

gasped for the breath that was forced out of her lungs due to the added weight and

watched in dismay as Renae began to giggle.

"Are you alright, Ter?" The question sounded sincere if one was to dig deep

enough past the obvious enjoyment that Renae found in Teri's unfortunate position.

Teri, having caught her breath, stared at the girl in front of her, though she

supposed Renae was a woman now.

They had been in most of each other's classes throughout high school. Teri

found it strange while Renae simply claimed it was fate. Teri had asked Renae out

on a date on the last day of eleventh grade and they had been dating ever since. A

lot had changed in the following four years. Renae's hair was longer, in Teri's case

shorter and dyed a ridiculous shade of purple, and clothing choices became more
distinct due to the freedom which accompanied college.

Coming out, for both girls, had been a terrifying thing to do. Their parents
loved them, but they contradicted Renae and Teri's relationship. The girls made a

choice together to come out to their families on the same night, the night after they
