bounced ahead of Teri and bent down to shove her hands in the snow. She stood up
with an armful and proceeded to throw the frozen water above their heads. Teri
laughed at first and hardly grimaced as the snow made contact with her face.
Thank goodness Renae had been wearing gloves otherwise her hands would be
frozen along with everything else!
Almost 20 minutes into their walk and almost three quarters of the way to
the store, Teri's foot found a patch of ice under the snow. She found her mind
drawing a blank as she toppled backwards. Renae later said the following action
was cruel but Teri argued it was nothing more than basic instinct; as Teri was
falling, she grabbed onto Renae's arm and pulled her girlfriend down with her.
Renae yelped as she attempted to catch herself and ended up landing on top
of Teri (Renae called this karma for pulling her down in the first place). Teri
gasped for the breath that was forced out of her lungs due to the added weight and
watched in dismay as Renae began to giggle.
"Are you alright, Ter?" The question sounded sincere if one was to dig deep
enough past the obvious enjoyment that Renae found in Teri's unfortunate position.
Teri, having caught her breath, stared at the girl in front of her, though she
supposed Renae was a woman now.
They had been in most of each other's classes throughout high school. Teri
found it strange while Renae simply claimed it was fate. Teri had asked Renae out
on a date on the last day of eleventh grade and they had been dating ever since. A
lot had changed in the following four years. Renae's hair was longer, in Teri's case
shorter and dyed a ridiculous shade of purple, and clothing choices became more
distinct due to the freedom which accompanied college.
Coming out, for both girls, had been a terrifying thing to do. Their parents
loved them, but they contradicted Renae and Teri's relationship. The girls made a
choice together to come out to their families on the same night, the night after they
