GRACE, Exploring Its Riches
If you’ve noticed, this passage indicates where the
blessing of God is slightly different from the grace of
God. The blessing requires human effort to come into
divine enabling and advantage, unlike grace that requires
man’s faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ to come
into the same divine enabling and advantage. In one case
man worked it to enjoy God’s goodness; in the other case
Jesus worked it and brought it to whoever believes in Him.
It must be remembered that Jesus, among other things
which He did for us, connected us, according to Galatians
3:13-14, to the blessing God promised to Abraham.
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law,
having become a curse for us (for it is written,
“Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the
blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles
in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of
the Spirit through faith.”
Here we notice that for the Christian to enjoy the blessing
God promised to Abraham, it will not come by one’s
effort but obedience to God primarily, based on one’s faith
in Jesus.
