The Ultimate Expression of Grace
Abraham’s Example
For the essence and possibility of grace to fulfil destiny and
secure eternity, we find a good scriptural pattern in
Abraham.
I. Abraham Was Called and Found Grace
In Joshua 24:2-3, reference is made of how God picked
Abraham from among a people who did not know Him.
“And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the
LORD God of Israel: ‘Your fathers, including
Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of
Nahor, dwelt on the other side of the River in old
times; and they served other gods. Then I took your
father Abraham from the other side of the River,
led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and
multiplied his descendants and gave him Isaac.”
This is undeserved grace because Abraham did nothing to
warrant God calling him from among his heathen tribe.
Recalling the favour of God upon Abraham millennia later
in Acts 7:2-3, Stephen says to the religious leaders who
gathered to judge him,
“Brethren and fathers, listen: The God of glory
appeared to our father Abraham when he was in
Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran, and said
