to him, ‘Get out of your country and from your
relatives, and come to a land that I will show
you.”
Abraham’s call was God’s expression of grace toward the
patriarch. God reiterates this truth in Isaiah 51:1-2.
“Listen to Me, you who follow after
righteousness, You who seek the LORD: Look to
the rock from which you were hewn, And to the
hole of the pit from which you were dug. Look to
Abraham your father, And to Sarah who bore you;
For I called him alone, And blessed him and
increased him.”
Even though Abraham came out of a background of
idolatry he responded to divine encounter and received
grace for the new journey of a life devoted to God. We have
explained earlier that the operation of the blessing under
the Old Covenant was a divine enabling of the grace of
God. It was by this grace that Abraham experienced
increase in diverse forms. The blessing of the LORD on his
life manifested in various ways:
I. He was SPIRITUALLY blessed. God entered into
covenant with Abraham in Genesis Chapter 15, and
made him to enjoy the benefits of the covenant. God
regarded Abraham as a prophet. A prophet is one who
has divine authority and who can be inspired by the
Spirit of God to represent God to people, either by
