Jesus, The Source of Grace
iv. Repentance Leads to Cleansing, Purging and
Renewal
Why such emphasis on repentance, one may ask. Aside the
others, the primary result of repentance is the cleansing,
purging of the heart, and the renewal of the soul that the
penitent sinner receives from God. Nothing beats this! Or,
how else may we differentiate the old you from the new
you except there is the clear signs of conversion in you. As
Apostle Paul puts it in 2 Corinthians 5:17,
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation; old things have passed away; behold, all
things have become new.”
All things are made new. Oh, how true! Anyone who
professes to be a Christian, except such is nominal,
ordinary and inconsequential in the matters of God’s
Kingdom, must show the effects of the common salvation
which Jesus gives to all His saints, effects of true conversion
of life, removal and obliteration of old sinful practices,
effects of a changed life, effects of a new Lord, Jesus Christ
the Son of God, and no more allegiance to Satan and the
ways of this sinful world. Else, the whole profession of
salvation in Christ would be mere mockery.
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in
sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How
shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?”
(Romans 6:1-2).
