reasons. They were born in church, so to speak, because
their parents used to take them to church. Others come
regularly because they seek business, employment and
financial opportunities from members in church. These
and other purposes attract people to different churches. No
matter the initial objective, all comers to church need to
encounter repentance to enter God’s Kingdom.
ii. To Keep Pace with the Lord and His Revelation
The second level of repentance is for people already in
God’s Kingdom. This seems to be a controversial issue with
some Christians and church leaders; but we have the
counsel and comfort of Scriptures. Some have preached
and taught that Christians do not need to repent. But a
careful and objective study of Scriptures proves otherwise.
Here are some examples:
a. JOB
Job was already in the Kingdom. He knew and believed in
God. He lived in holiness to please God. And God both
acknowledged him and was so proud and even boastful of
him. The book in his name opens with these inspiring
verses:
“There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name
was Job; and that man was blameless and upright,
and one who feared God and shunned evil...Then
the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered
My servant Job, that there is none like him on the
