Teaching Tips:
Use the exercises in the pamphlet for group discussion and review of the key concepts.
Discuss as a group what employers look for when hiring new employees.
Discuss the main categories of the pamphlet.
Use online job boards listed of Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, Indeed.com, US.jobs.org,
USAJobs.gov.
Introduce the main themes that are presented in the IM: Finding my skills, hard, soft, and
transferrable skills, understanding strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges to
the job search. Barriers to employment, factors important to the individual in the job
search, working for wages or a salary, places to look for a job, and benefits to employers for
hiring workers.
