“Objects change depending on who they are with.”

“The square is solid and flexible.
The ribbon suggested making a necklace.”

“Putting the paua shell on the paper,
I see the extraordinary in the ordinary.”

Vea Vecchi explained that one of Malaguzzi’s intentions in creating the atelier was to “go beyond materials and
techniques to stop and look at the processes of empathy and intense relations with things…”
Rather than viewing the world as a collection of separate, passive, inert things~objects~materials on which
humans act, Vecchi advocates for an empathetic attitude, one which introduces a ‘beat of life’ into explorations we
carry out. This ‘beat of life’ is what often solicits intuitions and connections between disparate elements to
            generate new creative processes.
