trees bear fruits at different times. While some trees bear fruits after two years some
trees bear fruits after fifteen years while the walnut tree bears fruits even after hundred
years. Exactly in the same manner, the good and evil actions that Man performs are of
various types and the fruits of these actions materialise in human life after different
spans of time in the form of happiness and sorrow or pleasure and pain. If this principle
is properly grasped, the point will become clear, that till the time Man actually faces the
reactions to his good and bad actions, these unmanifested reactions remain dormant in
his deeper consciousness in the form of Pāpa and Punya, awaiting favourable
circumstances to manifest in his life. As soon as favourable circumstances materialise,
these unmanifested reactions in the form of Pāpa and Punya which are lodged in Man's
deeper consciousness manifest themselves and compel Man to face the results in the
form of sorrow and suffering or peace and happiness. The subconscious mind very
secretly, accurately and unconsciously deposits continuously in the Divine Invisible Bank,
Man's bad and good actions as Pāpa and Punya in the form of subtle impressions, which
bring about corresponding bad and good results in his life. Thus the phenomenon of
Pāpa-Punya can be defined as follows,
"Unmanifested evil and good reactions deposited by the subconscious mind in the
Invisible Divine Bank, awaiting favourable circumstances for manifestion in life, can
rightly be designated as Pāpa and Punya.''
This Pāpa and Punya deposited in the Divine Invisible Bank manifest themselves in
the form of unfavourable and favourable destiny which eventually becomes responsible
for shaping Man's life. People are ignorant about a very important universal truth that
normally Man has to face favourable and adverse reactions of good and evil actions
performed by him. Consequently, he is careless and negligent while performing actions at
the three levels of thought, speech and deeds. The sorrow and happiness as also the pain
and pleasure that Man experiences in his life are mainly due to the balance of the
unmanifested reactions in the form of Pāpa and Punya in his Divine Invisible Bank.
Though people experience miseries in their life due to the accumulated Pāpa in their
Divine Invisible Bank, they wrongly attribute their suffering to some irrelevant causes
and resort to wrong types of remedies. If the diagnosis of a disease is basically wrong,
not only is the disease treated wrongly but the adverse effect of such wrong treatment
aggravates the disease. Similarly, if people who face the result of Pāpa deposited in their
Divine Invisible Bank are not aware of the true cause of their misery and sorrow, they
adopt irrelevent measures to alleviate their pitiable condition, which not only turns out to
