loses. For example, if a person loses his gold ring, he continues to search for it till he
finds it. Similarly due to Man's amnesia of his intrinsic divine nature, he is in search of
bliss in the external world. In spite of his efforts, Man is unable to find this bliss because
the bliss which he is in search of in the world outside, is in fact his own intrinsic nature,
which is within him. The result is, people who are in search of bliss, ultimately die
without finding this bliss. As stated earlier, Man's life is blessed with intrinsic bliss by
nature. In other words, human life is basically a pond of bliss in which Man's ever
consciousness in the form of 'I-ness' is a ripple of bliss and the form of this ripple is also
bliss. This aspect is clearly brought out by Sant Tukaram in his following hymn.
"Life is a pond of bliss in which the ripple of one's I-ness is also bliss and the form
of this ripple is also bliss in nature''
In this context, another important aspect is that bliss is eternally upsurging by
nature. The inherent bliss being basically upsurgent by nature, its tendency is to
manifest itself, for which it requires a gross medium. For example, electricity which is
most subtle, requires a gross medium to manifest itself. Similarly, the most subtle form
of bliss requires a gross medium to manifest itself and this medium in the case of Man is
in the form of the human body. In other words, this bliss constantly manifests itself in
Man's life in the form of actions performed through human body on the three levels of
thought, speech and deeds. This means that bliss manifests itself in the form of actions
performed by Man through the sense organs, organs of knowledge and inner organs.
Unfortunately, exactly the opposite condition prevails in Man's life, since he is totally
ignorant of this truth. On the contrary, man makes efforts to achieve happiness through
the objects in the external world. This is the main reason why there is so much of chaos
and confusions in Man's life. Briefly, the root cause of Man's difficulties, miseries and
sufferings is thus to be found firstly in his complete ignorance of the truth that the nectar
of bliss, is within him and secondly in his vain efforts for search of happiness in the
external world. JEEVANVIDYA therefore points out that,
"Comforts of life, peace of mind and bliss inherent in the soul are three different
states of consciousness and are related to body consciousness, pure consciousness and
Divine consciousness respectively. Wealth and money are required for achieving comforts
of life, PUNYA or auspicious actions are required for attaining peace of mind, while
awakening Divine consciousness within is essential for attaining bliss inherent in the
soul.''
