first thought that was manifested, while 'I shall manifest in infinite forms' was the
subsequent thought. In this context, the following is a very important doctrine of

JEEVANVIDYA.
"First there was a thought and that thought was God''

This is an important doctrine because this doctrine has tremendous influence on
Man's life. Only when Man is able to comprehend adequately this doctrine, he will realise

why pre-eminence is given to the power of thought, why thoughts play an important role
in Man's life and why there is great significance to thoughts. Let us now try to

understand from a different point of view, why 'Thought is God or Life Force'. Thought is
Life Force because it is the manifestation of the Cosmic Life Force. Therefore the Life

Force in thought has the strength both to create a beautiful life or to destroy Man's life
completely, in the same way as any power has the capability to create or destroy.

Unfortunately, the human race has been continuoulsy creating a series of endless
problems, right form historical times to the present age, mainly because it has miserably

failed to grasp the enormous power of thought. Hence, history is repeating itself,
because of the ignorance of this vital truth. Having failed to comprehend that thought is

Life Force, people perform various religious practices in the name of worship of God. As a
part of performing these religious practices, some people fast, some undertake

pilgrimage, some recite scriptures, while some others perform sacrificial rituals. However,
only when people realise that thought is the Life Force, they will ensure their welfare and

well being by means of auspicious awareness, auspicious contemplation and auspicious
thinking. Generally, inauspicious thinking in life gives rise to Man's inauspicious speech

and deeds which lead him towards failure, frustration, and a wretched life. On the
contrary, Man's beautiful, good and excellent thoughts eventually lead him towards a

successful, prosperous and contented life. Jeevanvidya says,
"Thoughts are essentially the actual manifestation of the Cosmic Life Force itself

and are responsible in every way for shaping human life, either miserably or elegantly.''

Thought is Gangotri
Now let us analyse how a thought is the origin of living life. The bed of the river

Ganga (Ganges) is very vast like that of an ocean. However, at its origin, the flow of this
river is in a very limited form. Similarly, though the flow of our life is very vast like that

of an ocean, the origin of our living is only in the form of thoughts. Hence, if Man
remains alert at the level of thoughts and changes his negative thoughts into positive
