perform a penance and gratify God, you will be benefited.'' This advice appealed to this
old blind man and he decided to act on it. He commenced the penance with extreme
devotion and became successful in gratifying God who said to him, "Ask for any boon
that you desire, but my condition is that, you must ask for one boon only, because I will
not grant you more than one.'' Hearing this condition, this man was in a fix, because he
had intended to request for more than one boon. However this blind man was very
shrewd and intelligent. He had lost his wife ten years ago. Hence he deeply pondered
over the entire situation and finally decided to ask for one boon only. He said, "Oh God,
let me witness the coronation ceremony of my grand son.'' God replied, "So be it'' and
disappeared. Let us see the outcome of this boon, which the blind man had asked for. In
order to have a grand son, he must have a son and in order to have a son he had to be
married. So also, in order to see the coronation of his grand son with his own eyes, the
vision of this blind man had to be restored. In this way, by requesting for a single boon
from God, this blind man, due to his sharp intelligence, received many boons. His single
boon gave him a wife, a son, a grand son, a kingdom, his vision and a long life. However
JEEVANVIDYA teaches a far more powerful method to ask for a boon from God. This
method not only ensures the welfare and well being of the person requesting for the
boon, but it also has the capacity to ensure the welfare and well-being of the world at
large. According to this method, the person does not ask for any boon for himself, but he
requests for a boon for the entire human race. JEEVANVIDYA teaches Man to ask for the
following boon,
"Oh God, kindly bless all with health and wealth, bless all with money and
harmony, bless all with peace and bliss, bless all with wisdom and your devotion''.
This universal prayer is a golden mine of thoughts which is to be recited
continuously by every person in the world, whenever he is mentally free. This universal
prayer is secular and can be recited by every person in the world irrespective of caste,
sect, race or religion to which he may belong. Once this prayer is accepted by the
subconscious mind, the person can reach the desired goal. In this context, the American
philosopher William James states,
"Your subconscious mind is fed by hidden springs and is called the law of life.
Whatever you impress on your subconscious mind, the latter will move heaven and earth
to bring it to pass. You must therefore impress it with right ideas and constructive
thoughts.''
