                                    Lesson 1 Why Do I Keep Doing That?

                                                         Classroom

                1.  Post a Quote in the room (whiteboard, flipchart, etc.) relevant to the day’s
                   material (Use highlighted quotes in the workbook if you would like)

                2.  Welcome Class and Cover Logistics

                Welcome the participants to the TOPUCU program.  Explain the acronym TOPUCU and the general
                purpose of the program … personal transformation.




                3.  Formulate Ground Rules with the group

                Give the participants the opportunity to ask questions and provide additional ground rules.


                4.  Play Lesson 1 Video “Why Do I Keep Doing That”



                5.  Video Review & Class Dialogue:
                      1.  Share your personal story of habit transformation.
                      2.  Reference: Lesson 1 Key Words
                      3.  Repeat these to the class and open the room for questions/dialogue.

                6.   Homework/Reading Assignment:
                       1.  Read Lesson 1: “Why do I keep doing that?” parts one and two in your workbook.
                       2.  Pick one habit to focus on.
                       3.  Identify the 3 parts of your habit (trigger / routine / reward).
                          Note:  Remember the only way to break that habit is to change the routine. How are you
                          going to change your routine? What will you do differently? Write all of this out on a separate
                          paper that you can refer to daily.
                          Example: Tom wants to focus on his health/fitness. The habit he wants to address first is to
                          quit snacking after 7 p.m. He will write this down and attempt to identify his trigger / routine
                          / reward for late night snacking. Next, he’ll decide how he will change his routine. This might
                          be an evening walk outside for fresh air instead of his nightly snack.
