Lesson 3 Pain Is A Must!!!
Classroom
1. Post a Quote in the room (whiteboard, flipchart, etc.) relevant to the day’s
material (Use highlighted quotes in the workbook if you would like)
2. Introduction Story: How to Train a Dolphin Analogy; They train them by using a stick and
getting the dolphin to jump over the stick by giving it a reward and continue the process until the
dolphin jumps as high as they need it to. (refer to google if needed)
3. Review
a. In lesson 1 we talked about habit and routine change. Everyone should have identified their
habit and be working on replacing their old routine with a new one. How has this been
going?
b. Open the room for dialogue, stories, questions about this material.
c. In lesson 2 we talked about internal vs. external motivation and how important internal
motivation is.
d. And finally, we talked about the scales. Who in this class has memorized the formula? (Ask
someone in the class to give the formula)
i. Once you have this memorized you can begin to tip the scales in your favor.
e. Open the room for dialogue, stories, and questions about all the above review topics
4. Play Video 3/Lesson 3 “Pain Is A Must!”
5. Video Review and Class Dialogue:
Open the dialogue by asking the class to shout out words that come to mind when they think of
successful people. Have them shout the words out. As they do this write all the words down on the
chalkboard or whiteboard. Finish writing all the words then pause for a second. Tell the class,
“EVERYONE KNOWS THIS!!! Everyone in the world knows those are things you need to do in order to
be successful. The difference is those who are successful turn that knowledge into skill…and…pain
association transfer is how you do that. By using the lesson of PAT you learn to apply these words
(point to the board) and do the things you don’t want to do in order to become the person you want
to become.
