City Poly’s 3rd Year Scholars with English Language Arts and Math Proficiency

A distinctive feature of City Poly’s current structure is its five-year curriculum. During
their first three years, students take their courses in a trimester structure, which can
accelerate their completion of their high school graduation requirements. The fourth
and fifth years follow a semester schedule; students take most of their college courses
during these last two years.

A recent (January 2015) study of the legacy cohort of City Poly students (i.e., the first
class of students to enter the school, in 2009) by the CUNY Office of Research
Evaluation & Program Support found that 3.4% of the graduates from this cohort
graduated at the end of their third year, 46.6% graduated at the end of their fourth year,
and 50% graduated at the end of their fifth year. The study also found that students
who waited to graduate in their fifth year, were able to earn an average of 34.9 college
credits, and 42.3% of fifth year graduates earned 45 or more college credits. The study
noted that this represents 3 semesters worth of college credits. None of the students
who graduated earlier than their fifth year earned 45 or more credits. 60.9% of the
graduates from this legacy class enrolled in CUNY in the fall following their graduation
from high school.

In 2014, City Poly earned “Distinguished” status from the Nation Academy Foundation.
This designation is given to schools that have exhibited exceptional fidelity to an
educational model that prepares students for success in college and careers.

City Poly looks forward to converting into a six-year, NYS P-TECH School, beginning in
September 2015. City Poly will offer Associate’s degrees in partnership with City Tech
in the following career areas: Construction Management Technology, Civil Engineering
Technology, and Architectural Technology. The business partners for our NYS P-TECH
partnership are the Building Trades Employers’ Association of New York City (BTEA)
and CH2M Hill, an international company offering full-service engineering,
constructions, and operations consulting and management.
