Middle Early College was proud to open its doors for the first Year Opened: September 2003
cohort of 80 9th grade students in September 2003. Today,
MECHS is in its 12th year, and accepts students through the 2014-15 Enrollment: 291
Buffalo Public Schools District Choice process. Those
wanting to attend must meet the academic criteria of a 7th & Male/Female Ratio: 129/162
8th grade cumulative average of 65% - 85%, and partake in
an interview that involves both the students and parents. Enrollment by Race/Ethnicity:
Those students who are accepted commit to a five-year African American – 76.8%
program and mandatory summer attendance that focuses on Hispanic – 10.8%
college readiness, physical education, and Math & English Asian/Pacific Islander – 0.4%
enrichment. White – 12%
The college journey begins for students in 10th grade when Percentage Free/Reduced Price Lunch
they earn 6 credits through D’Youville College in art. In 11th (FRPL): 78%
grade students take Chemistry, two electives, and U.S
History through a partnership with Erie Community College Average Number of College Credits
and Buffalo State College, which also includes Economics & Earned By Grade Level:
Government over the summer. This is also the year students
select either Physical Education, Business Administration, 9th Grade – 3.6
Criminal Justice, Building & Trades, or General Studies as a 10th Grade – 6.1
major. By the end of 12th grade students have had the 11th Grade – 16.2
opportunity to earn up to 50 college credits. Students return 12th Grade - 44.1
for their 5th year to complete the requirements for their
