Program Highlights
The status for the sophomores, juniors, and seniors for the first semester mid-year
grade point averages of the 2014-2015 school year were released March 1, 2015.
Twenty of the top twenty-five seniors (80%) were Smart Scholars students. For the
juniors, twenty-one of the top twenty-five (84%) were Smart Scholars students; as were
the sophomores.
Ninety one students (freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors) are registered for
college classes. They are College Algebra, Medical Terminology, Psychology,
Introduction to Sociology, Intermediate Spanish 1, Anatomy and Physiology I and II,
Physical Anthropology, and Emergency Medical Services. Eighteen of the seventy-
seven Smart Scholars seniors will graduate with a minimum of 14 college credits with a
range of 14-29 college credits. All 149 freshmen are enrolled in the one credit College
Prep course.
Networking sessions occur every Friday in English classes for all Smart Scholars
students. One of the freshmen exclaimed, “My grades and attendance are improving
because these Friday classes make me want to be in class every day.” Another student
stated, “I never thought I would be taking college classes in high school.” One of our
seniors said, “I may be able to save $57,000 as I can enter college as a sophomore. It
will make a big difference as I want to become a cardiothoracic surgeon, one less year
of college.” Underclassmen are asking when the next Accuplacer assessment will be
given so they can also take college classes.
