                                          the Brotherhood: celibacy, obedience, and
poverty, and the guidelines pertaining to the
life and governance of the Hierarchical See
                                          to which he belongs.
The second part of the ordination takes
place the next day during the Holy Mass.
Before the Scriptural reading, the candidate
starts ascending the altar on his knees. The
celebrant, after being assured that the can-
didate wants to assume the ministerial vo-
cation willingly, invites him to turn his
face to the congregation and to hold up his
hands as a sign of resignation from worldly
pleasures and interests. This is a moving
moment when the celebrant on behalf of
the congregation prays that the candidate,
empowered by the Holy Spirit, may be filled
with heavenly grace in his ministry. The
Holy Mass continues until the kiss of peace.
At this point, the celebrant puts the
liturgical vestments proper to his ministerial
position on the candidate, giving him special
authority with each vestment. Then he
anoints the candidate with the holy muron
on the forehead and the right and left hands
(for bishop only forehead and right hand),
giving him, in the case of a priest, a new
name, which is a sign of his rebirth in Christ.
After the anointment, the celebrant presents
him with the chalice containing the con-
secrated Bread and Wine and confers on him
the authority to celebrate the Holy Eucha-
