6.2.2 STANDPIPE SYSTEM
A standpipe and hose connection shall be in each required exit stairway, to provide adequate coverage, auxiliary fire hose valves
may be added at the floor area.
In lieu of fire hose racks at each floor, provide at least three open nozzles, two one and one-half inch, and two and one-half inch
spanner wrenches, two and one-half by one and one-half inch non-swivel reducing couplings and three hundred seventy-five feet
of one and one-half inch hose stored and maintained in a locked cabinet located on the main entrance floor and every 10 floors as
Per NYC Building code.
Minimum Flow: 500 gpm (Based on NFPA 14-2007)
Minimum Pressure: 65 psi New York City Building Code
6.3 DESCRIPTION OF SYSTEMS
The Fire Protection System shall be a combined Fire Standpipe and Sprinkler System.
The building will have one zone served by one 750GPM Automatic Fire pump located at the cellar level, the pump will have two
water supplies, one 6” Fire service form the 14 street municipal water service and second one form 22,500 Fire Reserve water tank

located on the Cellar floor. A redundant supply shall be provided via Fire Department Siamese Connections located on the Ground
Floor and capable to serve entire building.
One fire hose valve (2½”) will be provided at each floor off the combined fire standpipe riser.
The combined standpipe riser will also serve the Sprinkler System. Connected to the combined riser at each floor (fire zone) will be
a sprinkler floor control valve assembly consisting of a shutoff valve, check valve tamper switch, flow switch, PRV (where required)
and test drain connector. The floor control valve assembly installation will be alternating at each floor.
A 3” drain riser will be provided next to each combined sprinkler/standpipe riser.
A dry pipe system will be provided for the loading dock area.
Pressure restricting devices shall be installed where required on fire hose valves.
All areas of the building will be sprinklered except those areas exempt by the New York City Building Code (elevator machine room,
transformer room, switch gear room, electrical closets where these rooms have two hours fire rated walls in order to comply with
the exemption)
Each retail space will have dedicated sprinkler floor control valve assembly and will be fully sprinklered.
Two Fire Department Siamese connections and Fire Pump Test Header, will be provided along the 14 Street.
