same words in audio and text overloads working
memory and reduces learning. Present words with
audio or with text, but not both
4. Digital Interactions
Build in Frequent Interactions
In e-learning your interactions should be scheduled much
more frequently—as often as every minute
Just remember that materials "covered" is not the same as
content learned, regardless of the delivery medium
Vary Response Options
Most e-learning tools offer a variety of response formats
For example, in the virtual classroom you can ask learners to
type into chat, mark the whiteboard, select a survey option, or
speak through the microphone
In asynchronous e-learning, learners can click onscreen
objects, type short text statements on the screen, select
multiple-choice options, or engage in simulated learning
environment
Provide Explanatory Feedback
Research on feedback shows that it's important to let learners
know when they are correct or incorrect as well as to give an
explanation
In asynchronous forms of e-learning, feedback to multiple-
option questions appears on the screen as the learner
selects an option
In the virtual classroom, the instructor typically provides
feedback with a combination of verbal explanations as well as
visual illustrations that reveal the correct answer
