New Year's Resolutions
It’s time to think about New Year’s resolutions. A res- olution implies considering changes we might make, per- haps giving up something, or contrariwise, we might be thinking of acquiring a help- ful behavior. I’m thinking about this start of the new year activity but in a some- what unique way. Before I get to that, let me share the con- text that prompted this sub- ject. his story. He died, as they say, “consciously,” and his earthly life’s end is one Resolution I will share with you. The other resolution is mine, and because it concerns Bert, it might be helpful to share a few anec- dotes about his life as well as
memories I have of him.
Bert explored all with a pas- sion. His explorations led to the mastery of many skills and the wonder of unexpected dis- coveries. He began making toy sailboats of his own design as a young child. As a grown man,
refining the skills learned from his father, he built “real” boats. He built clocks, designed a va- riety of toys, took thousands of quality photographs, and built a home for his retirement
