THE LAW OF WAR
United States Marines always follow the law of war: 1) Marines fight only
enemy combatants; 2) Marines do not harm enemy combatants who
surrender; 3) Marines do not torture or kill enemy prisoners of war or
detainees; 4) Marines supply medical aid, food, and water to prisoners of
war. Marines do not hold enemy troops any longer than required.
Thousands and thousands of these paper leaflets were dropped over enemy
positions during Desert Storm. These messages encouraged Iraqi Troops to
surrender, less risk annihilation. Surrendering troops are promised safe
passage, medical attention, food, and water. A promise delivered by the 1st
Marine Division and Delta Company.
