Chapter 2 Basic Voltage and Power on
2.1 Voltage Measurement 3V,5V,12V and 5VSB
Check Voltage 3V, 5V, 12V and 5VSB by multi-meter.
01. Switch the multi-meter to Diode shift for impedance measurement.
02. Connect the red probe to ground.
03. Measure 3V, 5V, 12V and 5VSB with black probe. Normally the impedance should
over 200 ohm.
(The impedance of voltage 3.3V is around 10~15 Ohm for some M/Bs, Please confirm
with schematic)

2.2 Measurement Procedures
Basic Voltage Failure – Basic voltage failure involves lots of components and voltage
transfer, so the repair procedure is to isolate the parts which causes short. The defected
components can be more than one on the voltage short M/B. Before all short
components are removed, the replaced components cannot be soldered; otherwise they
might be damaged right away. By considering the Repairing cost, if both SB and NB
are burn out, it is reasonable to swap the failed M/B without repair.
