UHN ON-CALL ORIENTATION

                       The on-call day shift begins at 08:30 hours to 16:30 hours Monday to Sunday.
                  1  The on-call evening shift begins at 16:30 hours to 23:00 hours Monday to
                       Sunday.
                       It is the responsibility of the on-call person to check voicemail periodically
                       throughout the shift at TWH. On weekends, it is also their responsibility (day
                  2  or evening) to connect with the person beginning their on-call shift for pager
                       handover and to make any necessary referrals to ensure effective transfer of
                       accountability. The usual location for this is the Spiritual Care office at PMH.

                       Pages will be responded to by phone within 10 minutes. It is the responsibility
                  3  of the on-call person to inform the clinical area of estimated time of arrival to
                       the call and assess each page in person.
                       The on-call person will assess the urgency of the page based on the following
                       3 priorities:

                          a)  Priority 1: Imminent Death
                          b)  Priority 2: Pt/Family in Crisis
                  4
                          c)  Priority 3: No immediate urgency
                       In the event that pages are forwarded to units where spiritual care staff are
                       assigned, the on-call person will inform the priority to the staff accepting the
                       transfer of accountability of the page.
                       On-call may be contacted in two ways:
                          1.  Pager – (416) 719-1234: To respond to the page, simply dial the

                              number, which appears on the pager screen. If you have problems,
                              please contact locating at 14-3155 or dial 0.

                          2.  Voicemail – below are the instructions on how to access the voicemail
                              at TW.
                          3.  TW: Dial 5777; Enter mailbox number (5836) and the password, both
                              followed by a number (#) sign.

                       Taxi vouchers can be used for travel to TR-Bickle and TR-Lyndhurst Centres.
                       Taxi vouchers are to be used for travel between the other UHN sites ONLY
                       when the shuttle services are unavailable. Taxi vouchers are kept with the
                  6  Administrative Assistant. The phone number for the taxi is on the vouchers
                       and taxis are usually available outside the lobbies and Emergency
                       Departments. The voucher receipt is to be returned to the Administrative
                       Assistant for documentation purposes.
                       The TG, TW, PM, & UC spiritual care offices use a door code. The on-call pager

                       will be picked up and returned to the PMH Spiritual Care office.
