P. 29

Distress to you Pharisees and scribes Pretenders! You travel across land and
sea to make one convert. His functions are twice more a son of evil than you.
Woe to you Pharisees and scribes Shammers! You modify external the cup and
pot but inside you are full of extortion, iniquity, sinfulness and immorality.
Unreasoning Pharisees modify first the inside of the cup and of the pot so that
                   the external may become disinfected.
Pain to you Pharisees and scribes Phonies! You are like the tombs that have
been decorated on the outside to appear righteous. Inside are iniquity,
                   sinfulness and immorality.
Distress to you Pharisees and scribes Imposters! You like to walk in long robes
and love to be greeted in the streets. You take the high seats in the synagogues
and the best seats at banquets.
Woe to you scribes and Pharisees Hypocrites! You embezzle the property of
widows with the pretense that you make long prayers. Because of this you shall
                   receive a greater judgment
Pain to you Pharisees and scribes Blind Guides! You say whoever swears by
the temple it is nothing. Whoever swears by the gold which is in the temple he is
guilty. Oh, you fool and blind which is greater the gold or the temple that
sanctifies the gold? You say whoever swears by the altar it is nothing. Whoever
swears by the offering that is on it he is guilty? Oh, you fool and blind which is
greater the offering or the altar that sanctifies the offering? He who swears by the
altar he swears by it and by everything that is on it. Whoever swears by the
temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it. He who swears by heaven
swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, Hypocrites! You are like graves that cannot
be recognized. Men walk over them and know it not. You are like tombs painted
white which look beautiful from the outside but inside are full of dead bones and
all kinds of corruption. You even decorate the graves of the righteous. On the
outside, you appear to men to be righteous. Within you are full of iniquity and
                   hypocrisy.

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, Hypocrites! You build the tombs of the
prophets whom your fathers killed. You are your own witnesses. You approve the
works of your fathers. They killed my prophets and yet you build their tombs. You
say if we had been living in the days of our forefathers we would not have been
partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. You testify concerning
yourselves that you are the children of those who killed the prophets.

Jesus said to them, now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and the dish.
Within is full of extortion and iniquity. O you shortsighted did not he who made
the outside also make the inside?
Blind scribes and Pharisees! Clean first the inside of the cup and bowl so that
the outside may also be clean.
