The Temptation
Now Jesus, clothed by the Holy Spirit returned from the Jordan, and the Spirit
carried him away into the wilderness with the beasts forty days in order that he
might be influenced by the adversary. He did not eat in those days and when
they were over he had become barren. In a vision the adversary drew near and
said to him if you are the Son of God command this stone to become lucre.
Jesus answered and said it is said that it is not by lucre alone that man can live
but by every word which comes from the mouth of God. Then the adversary
brought him to Jerusalem and made him to stand upon the pinnacle of the
Synagogue. The adversary said to him if you are the Son of God throw yourself
down from here; it is written that he will command his angels concerning you to
protect you and take you up in their arms so that even your foot may not strike a
stone. Jesus answered and said to him it is said you shall not entice the Lord
your God. Then the adversary took him to High Mountain and showed him all the
kingdoms of the earth and their renown and said to him I will give you these
Kingdoms and renown which are under my authority and delegate to which I
please. All these Kingdoms I will give you if you fall down and worship me all this
will be yours. Jesus answered and said to the adversary it is written you shall
revere the Lord your God and him only shall venerate. Then the adversary left
him alone; angels drew near and ministered unto him.

the Law? Discern the Son of God! When he said it two of his acquaintances
heard it and they went after Jesus.
Jesus turned around and saw them following him and he said to them what do
you want? They said to him Teacher where do you live? He said to them come
and you will see. One of them, who followed Jesus, was named Andrew and the
other Philip. Andrew saw his brother Simon first and said to him we have found
the Christ. So the three Philip,
Andrew and Simon came to Capernaum were he stayed. When Jesus saw
Simon coming to him he said to Simon I will call you Peter you are a stone and
upon this stone I will build my Temple and the ways of evil shall not prevail
against it.
Do you think that I have come to bring peace on earth? I say to you all, No, but
divisions; from this day forward there will be five in a house, who will be divided,
three against two, and two against three. A father will be divided against his son,
a son against his father; a mother against her daughter, a daughter against her
mother; a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, a daughter-in-law against
her mother-in-law. I came to set the earth on fire; and I wish to do it, if it has not
already been kindled. I have a baptism to be baptized with; I am oppressed until
