P. 58

Jesus then found Philip and said to him follow me. Now Philip was from
Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Simon. Philip found Nathanael, and said to him
we have seen and heard the word of life. Jesus, the son of Joseph of Nazareth,
is the one concerning whom Moses wrote in the law and the prophets. Nathaniel
said to him, can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him come
and you will see. Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him.

He said to Nathanael I have discerned an Israelite in who there is no
deceitfulness. Nathanael said to him how do you know me? Jesus said to him
even before Philip called you. While you were under the fig tree I saw you.
Nathanael said Teacher you are the Son of God and you are the Messiah.

Jesus said to him do you believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree
you shall ascertain prominent issues. He spoke to these seven whom he called, I
say to all of you, that from now on you will discern the heaven will unfold and the
angels of God ascend and descend to the Son of God.

                                                        In the Boat

He stood on the shore of the Sea of Galilee and noticed two boasts standing by
the lake; but the fishermen had gotten out of them to follow him. One of them
belonged to Peter. Jesus went up and sat in it. Peter and Andrew came over and
Jesus asked then to push it away from the shore to deeper water. Peter and
Andrew pushed the boat into the water. They climbed in with Jesus and then
rowed a little ways from the shore. Jesus called to his followers and the multitude
gathered around them at the sea shore.

Jesus began to teach and said he who wishes to come after me; let him deny
himself; risk his life for my sake; my Gospel, and follow me. Whoever wishes to
save his life will lose it; whoever loses his life for my sake and the sake of my
Gospel, he will deliver his life. How could a man be benefitted if he should gain
the entire world and lose his life; or what could a man give in exchange for his
life? Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this sinful and adulterous
generation the Son of man will also be ashamed of him

Do not expect that I have come to destroy the Law or disregard the prophets; I
have not come to destroy but to raise the Law. Truly I till you, until heaven and
earth pass away, not even one word shall fail or pass from the Law until all of it is
accomplished. Whoever tries to corrupt even one commandment and teaches
men so, he shall be regarded as a deceiver and cast out; but anyone who
observes and teaches them, he shall be regarded as a righteous man. I say to
you, that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees,
you shall not enter the kingdom of God.
