been getting, seeing her boxed into the mid field pack. With the bit between her
teeth Jaymee pushed hard to charge through the pack from 15th to 6th proving
a great ride.
Race two yielded a better start, however turn three contact with Vicky Marriot
which saw both riders go down hard brought the race to an immediate read
flag, with poor Vicky coming off worse with a broken collar bone.
With some quick lever repairs #999 remounted for the second race, again
storming round the ever hardening circuit after the front runners and gaining a
good finish.
Then came race three, which after a horrific first corner crash between
Kayleigh and the returning Charlotte Hall, Jaymee pushed into the lead pack
and with double points at stake the Chertsey Chargers fitness once again
shone, seeing her secure 4th place and close right up to the back of 3rd placed
rider Saunders.
With a 6th overall on the day, the target was met, however Team G were still deflated having slipped to 8th overall in the 2019
championship, even after a season best finish in the last race.
After another couple of crazy weeks at work Jaymee’s focus
turned back to the IMBA round in the Netherlands. So with
the bike prepared and looking great, the #16 machine was
ready for some Dutch sand blasting.
On arriving at the track to meet up with the rest of the
team, and early track walk found not just an impressive
circuit but a spectator’s paradise, with great viewing areas
for crowds to watch the International racing.
After free practice it was down to the business of
qualification, with the Dutch and Belgium riders excelling in
the deep sand, but the English ladies were not far behind
with #16 making the top 20 for the first race.
After a mid-pack start, the young Husqvarna rider started
to find her rhythm, moving up through the field to inside
the top 15 after some great overtaking moves and with 2
laps remaining she was looking good for a best IMBA finish, but
in the ever changing track conditions as she came out of the last corner jump onto the final straight the bike pitch in the deep
sand high siding its rider high in the air going down hard on the main straight, right in front of the pit area and much to the gasp
of the on looking crowd.
With marshal’s protecting the fallen rider, Jaymee crawled to her
knee’s finally offering a thumbs up to a concerned Dad and
onlookers, but with the wind taken out of her sails she slowly
managed to get to her feet dragging herself to the track side
visible shaken and injured. However, with the GB shirt on
and points at stake, the young rider threw her right leg back
over the slightly worse for wear machine remounting and
pulling away to try to finish the last lap of the race.
After a painful lap, Jaymee managed to bring the bike home
just outside the top 20, which was an amazing effort, but
the #16 rider was not the only one having a tough race one,
with GB lead rider Gowland going out of the race having
been tagged by a slower rider early in race one, resulting in
a heavy crash and bad concussion, which ended the UK’s top
women’s racers title dreams, as she was left unable to ride for
the remainder of the day.
