On to the final race of the day, which was now becoming a race
weekend feature, as the extra bike time was leading to the lap
times tumbling and pulling on all the additional fitness training.
With a blistering final start, the #999 machine was wheel to
wheel into the first corner with the hole shot being taken by
Kayleigh Dunston by a tyre tread.
After running in the top three for two laps the charging Gowland
flew past closely followed by King, Allison and Saunders but
Jaymee pushed hard to keep the iTech Husky in close attention
to the leaders, seeing for some fantastic racing and in the final
stages she closed in on Allison and made her moved on the
uphill section with half a lap to go resulting in an awesome 5th
place in the overall, the best overall of the year.
The drive home was a very happy one for the whole of Team G but still no elusive hole shot donuts on the journey home.
The following weeks back at station passed with varying shouts and training drills before the attention turned back to the next
race meeting, the season’s first IMBA, the GB round at Lower
Drayton.
With the bike rebuilt and looking fresh in the international
race livery #16 for the season, thanks to our friends at Zero
Nine MX Graphics and treated to an all over Putoline
makeover the iTech husky was ready for the race weekend.
After the long drive north and overnight in a nearby hotel
Team G set up camp with the other GB team riders, then it
was time to greet the other nations and riders at the anthem
ceremony, however something was not quite right.
Qualifying was a challenge as Jaymee struggles to get to
grips with the bike and heavy early day conditions, but after
a quick stop in the mechanic’s area for a pep talk, resulting in
two quick laps saw a jump from 24th to 16th which was a great
effort, however it had clearly taken a lot out of Jaymee who was clearly under the weather.
Race one was an action packed affair as the #16 was moving up the field from a mid-pack start. At the mid distance point, a top
ten beckoned until a corner collision with team mate Allison saw both riders go down after Bethy missed her breaking point
resulting in a coming together. Both riders picked themselves up to restart the charge to the end of the race.
Back in the paddock, Jaymee was bitterly disappointed in how she had finished and
the crash has wrecked her momentum and the resulting chase had taken its toll on
the rider. After some rest it was time to head to the line for race two, and again a
solid start saw Jaymee in the top 15 after lap one, where she held pace for the
opening laps until another collision dropped her far down the field making any
comeback challenging and added to the worsening track conditions the fire of the
charge back up the field was gone.
Back in the pits the team regrouped, however the Chertsey Charger was broken,
and completely exhausted, with the racing on top of life on station and training, all
had finally taking its toll on the young rider.
After some soul searching and pulling on every ounce of strength and
determination in her body the #16 went to the line for the last race, putting it all
on the line for the GB flag and to help the team.
