Follow your Dreams
When you look in the dictionary under “Determination” or when you hear the term “Follow your Dreams” the name of
Jaymee Garrood certainly won’t be too far away from either.
After 6 months of meticulous preparations, both dreams for 2018 were accomplished with flying colours, seeing Jaymee pass the
entrance examinations for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and qualify to race for Team GB as part of the 2019 International
Motocross season, making for a very hectic and exciting year in 2019.
In early January she started an intense 14-week residential
training course at SFRS Headquarters, where she would be based
for the duration of training to cover all aspects of firefighter life,
from ladders to breathing apparatus, immediate medical response,
to the physically demanding hose and ladder drills alongside 23
other recruits all selected from thousands for the first local
recruitment in years.
At the same time Jaymee knew that she had to be in good form
and ready for not only the start of the Westerman’s British
Women’s Motorcross Associations race programme, but
additionally the IMBA MX series, racing against the country’s best,
then Europe’s elite riders, as part of a strong GB Team travelling up and
down the country and into Europe, no easy task whist preparing to start your first working shifts for the fire service.
Targeting a top ten season position and passing out into whole time service, the pressure was on, all on top of recently moving in
with boyfriend Dave to their first home, clearly something had to give in making both dreams a reality.
