         health behaviours, and /or adaptive and social skills.

         Regional program


         Age group:12-18






         Mission: The Adolescent Psychiatric Assessment Unit is located in Prince George and is a regional

         centre for all adolescent psychiatric services.






         Main services provided:






             • Crisis stabilization


             • Comprehensive psychiatric assessment and brief treatment for youth who are experiencing serious

                psychiatric symptoms such as psychosis, disorder of mood, suicidal behavior or anxiety states


             • Care is provided by an inter-professional team, usually comprised of a Psychiatrist, Psychologist,


               Team Leader, Youth Counsellors, Nurses, Family Liaison, Waitlist Clinician, Recreation Therapist


                and School Teachers, and/or other disciplines as needed






         Details:


             • 6 bed unit


             • Provides services for all psychiatric issues, concurrent addictions & complex behaviors


             • Program is for crisis stabilization with a 72 hour stay or assessment for a stay from 4-6 weeks


             • Consultation and brief treatment with recommendation to community programs for follow-up


             • Provides a bio-psycho-social, cultural, spiritual model of care


             • Uses the model of engagement


             • Provides regional consultation through Grand Rounds and video conference, and tele-psychiatry


             • Primary Care model with a GP working on the unit with Psychiatrist


             • Provides an in-house school base program





         BC Medical covers service fees


         Referred required through waitlist clinician, through emergency department for crisis admission, or


         referrals from Physician’s.
