EGO, NAMI and Relay for Life

Saturday, April 11, 2015, Target II: Health Promotion of Epsilon
Gamma Omega solidified their commitment to partner with The
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), which is the largest
grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives
for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Sorors
performed a triple activity to help promote and support mental health
awareness in Huntsville, Alabama. First, Vice-Chairman, Soror
Truelove Sandifer delivered NAMI brochures and directories of
Licensed Mental Health Professionals in Madison County to local Alpha Kappa Alpha’s official social media
flyer for our Community Impact Day for
beauty shops. Next, Sorors Tonya Briggins, Truelove Sandifer and Mental Health Awareness

Karen Turnage delivered brochures and directories to the Robert
“Bob” Harrison Senior Wellness & Advocacy Center located on
Pulaski Pike. Finally, a display table with the same
materials were showcased during EGO’s April Sorority
Meeting to ensure members had access to information
that will help them promote services, treatment and
support for our community. Committee members also
shared NAMI materials with University of Alabama in
Huntsville Undergraduate Members of Omicron Zeta.
Omicron Zeta Sorors placed the mental health
brochures, specifically designed for college
students, in their Student Center. Target II of Sorors Karen Turnage, Truelove Sandifer and Tonya Briggins
Epsilon Gamma Omega is on the move with the delivering brochures to the Robert “Bob” Harrison Senior
NAMI partnership! Wellness & Advocacy Center. The items were received by a
Harrison Center representative.
May 16, 2015, The American Cancer Society
(ACS) sponsored its annual Relay For Life event. More than 30 Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter Sorors
were in attendance for this year’s event held at John Hunt Park. The goal for AKA- Team Ego was $1000.
This year, the team was able to raise $1252.72!!! Top team members with the most monies raised were
Sorors Daphne Thurman, Truelove Sandifer, LaDonna McCann and Carol Woods! Each of these Sorors
has or will receive a t-shirt for meeting the $100 donation mark designated by ACS. Soror Daphne
Thurman raised the most of any Soror with $130! Unfortunately, the rain forced the event to end earlier
than expected.
