WHAT IS AN EBOOK?

WHY EBOOK?

Technology and mobility has influenced every step of consumer’s life, including the way they read
books. Book readers have started to change their reading habits, opting for different types of formats of
books, such as ebook.

An ebook, also known as an electronic or digital book, is a digitally released version of a book, often
consisting of text and images and available on electronic devices, such as specifically designed ebook
readers. This shift in media consumption habits has a direct impact in the book industry. Ebook can be
printable, so that if you wish to read an ebook in the traditional way, you can very inexpensively print it
with your home printer or at any printing shop. Fonts in ebook can be resized, making it easier to read
for people with disabilities. With an additional software it is possible to turn some of the ebook into
audio books.

Ebook can show links, for easy access to more information and related websites. Ebooks are searchable.
You can easily search for any information in an ebook, instead of turning page after page. Ebook can be
interactive and contain audio, video and animations, which can enhance the message that the author is
trying to convey. They are portable. You can carry a whole library of hundreds of books with you, on CD,
in a laptop, notebook or any ebook reader, without worrying about their weight.
Some ebook don´t need internet connections to read or open the pages. Less cost and easy to use. Easy
to open another page by sliding to the direction of your choice. Ebooks are delivered almost
instantaneously. You can purchase, download and start reading them within minutes, without leaving
your chair. You don't have to go to a bookstore to buy them, neither wait for them for days, weeks and
sometimes more to arrive in the mail.

 My ebook is produced to ’investigate the different types of Online Services that are available
today around the world’.

 To investigate the possible problems that restrict individual’s access to the internet, in ‘digital
divide.’

 The possible benefits and the drawbacks of reducing digital divide.

 What contributes to the spread of the gap between individuals and the internet?

 The possible merits and demerits of using online services – in education, communication
sectors, etc.

 And what can be done to curve or reduce the gap to ensure that developing countries or
individuals, including elderly people have access to the internet.
