‘Was it a coincidence? A young man decides to have a two-year trip around the World and his
parents have a fatal accident the next day. For two years, he doesn’t come home not even for their

funeral. See what you can find’.

‘OK I’ll get on to the Post Office first.’

George was at his monthly meeting with the P.M. so I left Bren to her research and made my way
to Notting Hill to see Miss Morales. I don’t know what it was about her, either she was extremely
nervous at our meeting or she was holding back, possibly because Mex was there, but I needed to
speak with her again to see if she did know more than she had said in the Bricklayers.

Colville Terrace was a row of period buildings, most of which had been converted to flats, just off
the Portobello Road. The flat was a basement and I walked on the opposite pavement apparently
studying a London A to Z. A curtain twitcher lived on the first floor so I walked to the end of the
street, crossed over and came back to the basement flat and hurried down the steps.

There were no curtains at the windows and it was obvious the place was empty. The entrance door
was panelled glass and so entry was easy and quite. I checked all the rooms and they were bare.
Everything had been cleaned thoroughly and not by a Mrs. Mop .This place had been cleaned by a
professional, there was not even a fingerprint on the bathroom cabinet mirror or on the toilet seat.

I let myself out and climbed the steps to the main door. There was a row of intercoms and I pressed
what I took to be the curtain twitcher’s flat. It was answered straight away.

            ‘Yes.’

‘Hello. I wonder if you can help me. I am looking for Miss Gabriela Morales.’

            ‘Well who are you?’

‘I’m not supposed to tell you that.’

‘Well I am not going to speak to you unless you do.’

I paused awhile and went on, ‘This must not be divulged. I am from the unclaimed Premium Bond
            winners department.’

The door was opened almost immediately by a woman in her sixties wearing excessive and badly
applied makeup. I am sure she must have run down the stairs, she was certainly out of breath but
            that may have been excitement.

‘Who did you say you were looking for?’

‘Miss Gabriela Morales, from the flat downstairs.’

            ‘How much has she won?’

‘I am afraid I am not allowed to tell you that.’
